Yerevan (Erivan) · Today: Armenia · Middle East and Egypt
Yerevan came under Ottoman rule in 1583; Ottoman rule ended in 1735. It changed hands in between; there are 2 separate Ottoman periods. The Revan Pavilion in Istanbul is named after this city.
Murad IV took the city on 8 August 1635 and built the Revan Pavilion in Topkapı Palace to mark it; the city fell back to the Safavids on 1 April 1636.
Sultan: Murad IV · Event page →The Ottomans took the city after a three-month siege; the 1727 agreement recognised it.
Sultan: Ahmed IIIHow the total is counted: years of actual Ottoman rule are added up. Temporary occupations shorter than a year (that were reversed) are not subtracted; they appear as notes in the chronology.
On the atlas map the city lies in the region “Azerbaijan–Shirvan–Yerevan”. Map colours work at region level, so the city's own dates may differ from the region's by a few years.
