Tulip Era

Also known as: Lale Devri

The period of peace and innovation from the Treaty of Passarowitz (1718) to the Patrona Halil revolt (1730).

The name Tulip Era does not appear in 18th-century Ottoman chronicles; it was given to the period later. In these years, which include the long grand vizierate of Nevşehirli Damad İbrahim Pasha, pavilions and gardens were built along the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus, the first Turkish printing press was founded, and political and cultural ties with the West developed. The period ended with the Patrona Halil revolt in 1730.
