Larissa came under Ottoman rule in 1386; Ottoman rule ended in 1881.
Gazi Evrenos conquered eastern Thessaly including the town (sources give different dates); the Ottomans refounded it.
Sultan: Murad IOttoman rule ended when Thessaly was ceded to Greece; until then it was among the ten largest Ottoman cities in Europe.
Sultan: Abdulhamid IIIn the Greco-Turkish War of 1897 Gazi Edhem Pasha briefly brought the town back under Ottoman rule.
Sultan: Abdulhamid IIHow the total is counted: years of actual Ottoman rule are added up. Temporary occupations shorter than a year (that were reversed) are not subtracted; they appear as notes in the chronology.
On the atlas map the city lies in the region “Thessaly (Larissa–Trikala–Arta)”. Map colours work at region level, so the city's own dates may differ from the region's by a few years.
