Also known as: Charter of Alliance
The deed of alliance signed in 1808 between the leading statesmen and the provincial ayan.
After putting Mahmud II on the throne, Alemdar Mustafa Pasha summoned the ayan to Istanbul to restore order in the country. The Sened-i İttifak, agreed on 29 September 1808 at Kâğıthane between statesmen and ayan, holds a special place in Ottoman history as a written compromise between the central government and provincial powers.
