Also known as: beylerbeyi, mîrimîrân
The military and administrative head of a province; the name means “bey of beys”.
The beylerbey commanded the sanjak beys and timar-holding sipahis of his province, and in wartime led the province's troops on campaign. The beylerbeys of Rumelia and Anatolia could also sit on the Imperial Council. Beylerbeys carried the title pasha.
