Asakir-i Mansure-i Muhammediye

Also known as: Asakir-i Mansure

The new Ottoman army formed in 1826 after the abolition of the Janissary corps.

Its name means “the victorious soldiers of Muhammad”. The army was trained on the European model and placed under a serasker. The Asâkir-i Mansûre became the nucleus of the modern Ottoman army built up in the Tanzimat era.
